Supermicro IPMI Configuration Utility (often referred to as IPMICFG) is a lightweight, command-line tool for configuring and managing the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) on Supermicro servers directly from the host operating system. It enables administrators to set up and maintain out-of-band management without relying on the web interface or BIOS setup, and most changes can be applied without a reboot.

Key capabilities include:

  • Viewing and configuring BMC network settings such as DHCP/static IP, subnet mask, gateway, and VLAN ID
  • Creating and managing IPMI user accounts, privileges, and passwords
  • Enabling or adjusting features like Serial-over-LAN (SOL)
  • Reading hardware sensor information, system and FRU data, and performing BMC resets when needed

The utility is designed for Supermicro platforms and is available for multiple environments (for example, Windows, Linux, DOS, and UEFI shells). It is especially useful for automating server provisioning and ensuring consistent, scriptable IPMI configurations across fleets. Administrator privileges are typically required, and compatibility is limited to Supermicro systems with IPMI/BMC support.

Supermicro IPMI Configuration Utility is developed by Supermicro and is used by 1 user of Software Informer. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 1.1, 1.2, 1.4 and 1.5. The name of the program executable file is GSToolW.exe.
